It was pretty bold of the sheriff and his wife to invite Mulder to stay with them, since the one kept sneaking out to have an affair with a suspect and the other was the actual murderer.
I also thought it was a little odd that they slept with their door open, even when they had a house guest.
The whole “FBI agent comes in from out of town and spouts supernatural nonsense while the local sheriff looks bemused” thing reminded me a bit of Twin Peaks, and really there’s a lot of soapiness to this episode that wouldn’t be out of place in Twin Peaks, although the vibe is quite different.
It really ends up not being relevant that the killer communes with crows (?) and turns into a weird zombie (??). Like, I don’t know that the plot would otherwise be much different if you removed those two elements. I guess in that case Scully might have been sent instead of Mulder maybe.
X-Files really did have a love for food porn at times. Maybe it was particular scriptwriters. Sometimes it felt like local communities were offering tasting-and-horrible-death-by-cryptid buffet tours.
Which would have been an excellent concept for an episode, now I come to think of it.
I wasn’t expecting a Batman 66 joke, but I’m glad we got one.

Will he get more stuffing, or will she tell him to get stuffed? Find out next never!
