…we went through 12 years and a bad movie sequel for THIS?!
I mean, okay, we got a good Darin Morgan episode out of this season, but dammit somebody better put in some quality control for Season 11, and bring back Vince! And hire some new writers! Sheryl Nantus is just sitting there, her publisher just went out of business and she’s got to have a few decent X-Files ideas in her head and…
Ugh, I kept waiting and waiting for the clever twist while watching this episode… they aren’t REALLY just cardboard cutout Muslim Terrorists (TM), right? They are alien shape shifters. Or there’s mind control. Or the Muslim boys are being set up. Or… oh. Okay, they’re going with the stupid and obvious choice, then. Right.
Hoo, boy I was disappointed with this one. As soon as it was playing I was just thinking “please don’t just make the Muslims terrorists” over and over and then boom. Then I was hoping they would reveal that they weren’t actually the bombers, but then that let me down as well. Then, they were all “oh, he wasn’t a bad guy after all because he chickened out of blowing himself up at the last minute despite the fact that for weeks he believed that several innocent Americans deserved to die and he had been planning the bombing for just as long.”
And then we didn’t even have a proper presence from the Gunmen. They were building up how Mulder was gonna communicate with the dead and I was hoping the Gunmen would reveal that the exploded guy wasn’t involved and it was a conspiracy, but nope. Just a few seconds of silent screentime.
Fury, I had almost the identical reaction – “come on Carter, you’re seriously *not* going to play the ‘Islamic terrorist’ angle dead straight, right? You’ve got some clever out, right? Right?” Wrong.
And no spoken lines for the 3 Stooges. But hey, wasn’t it great to watch Mulder trip himself right out of that hospital? On a placebo? Hoo boy. Kim Manners must have rolled over a few times from this one alone….

I’d love to see Vince Gilligan contribute too, but of course it’s not as simple as “bring back Vince”.
How long is Better Call Saul going to run? And what are the odds he’ll be in very high demand for some other project when that’s over?

Yes!
I called it in the first five seconds of the show. I was really hoping I was wrong. 🙁
It is amazing sometimes how much better ‘Monster of the Week’ is than the actual X-Files episode it is about.
