I was excited to come across an episode set in my hometown of Pittsburgh, but I did not see anyone eat a single sandwich with French fries inside. Very disappointing. It’s true that Pittsburgh has a ton of hospitals, so I guess that’s something.

Is this the one where they go to “Squirrel Hill Hospital”? XD
Part two of the “Foreshadowing Scully’s cancer” arc. (Slightly more obvious than the 1st one)
gnar gnar gnar!
One of my favorite pizza places here has a bbq chicken pie with fries on it, but fries in a sandwich sound even better. Gotta visit Pittsburgh.
Then again, sandwiches with fries in them may explain the many hospitals.
Love the subtitle.
That was a weird episode. You know, all those deaths could have been avoided if they hadn’t cut off his cancer supply by firing him (jesus christ this show is weird).
He IS cancer! …and also eats it for some reason.
Whistling headless body is my new favorite character.
I still say Panini’s on East 9th in Cleveland does those sandwiches better than Primanti Bros., but I know I’m gonna get shouted down for that. There may also be some hometown bias involved.
OK, a Pittsburgh resident weighing in here…
If you’ve never been to Pittsburgh, the restaurant in question is called Primanti Bros. There are several locations, but the original–and, by most people’s reckoning, the best–is the one in the Strip District. Primanti Bros. sandwiches are widely considered one of those if-you’ve-never-had-one-you-really-should foods ’round these parts.
jdreyfuss: I’ve never been to Cleveland, so I can’t weigh in on the relative merits of Panini’s and Primanti’s. But since I’m not originally *from* Pittsburgh, I’m under no contractual obligation to hate Cleveland, so I’m willing to take your word for it that Panini’s sandwiches are at least good sandwiches.
wlad: I’ve never actually seen this episode, so I don’t know–but Pittsburgh *does* have a neighborhood called Squirrel Hill, and I should know that because I live in it. (I can confirm that we have both hills and squirrels.) There aren’t any hospitals in Squirrel Hill IRL, but “Squirrel Hill Hospital” is a totally plausible name for a fictional institution the “X-Files” folks might have created for a Pittsburgh-set episode.
It’s been a while since I’ve seen the episode, but I presume nobody thought to drop a mention of Moon, PA or Mars, PA into the script? Would have been perfect.
I made it to the Primanti’s on University Boulevard a couple of times while attending a science fiction convention nearby.
