That sounds like the kind of trashy, purple writing that would spend 40 years getting rejected by publishers. I’ve always liked how adamant he was that the Bills not win the Super Bowl while he was alive. It gives me hope that maybe there’s someone out there whose death could allow the Browns to win one. Besides Jimmy Haslam, I mean.
My X-Files watching group really took against this episode. At the end, I tried to draw a connection between it and the Coen brothers movie ‘The Man Who Wasn’t There’, but nobody bought it.
OMG, this was so much more entertaining than the actual episode! I’m sitting here at work trying not to laugh too hard. I love how you put in the running joke about Mulder (I mean, Wolfe Mandrake, Hahahaha) being besties with Cancer Man. And to think, if only the publishing company had accepted Cancer Man’s writing, maybe there’d be no alien conspiracy and the Bills would have won a Super Bowl.
I am DELIGHTED by this strip. You had good stuff to work with, and you made it even better. Thank you for making Mulder cut his goddamn hair! (I mean, I really love his hair, but for the strip, it’s perfect.)
Is it sad that I recognized the comic reference even before you pointed it out? To prove I know what I’m talking about without digging out the specific comic, it’s the fatima prophecy t-shirt Scully gave Mulder, IIRC.
I just wanted you to know that I’ve read all your comics, and I am a HUGE fan! I’m re-watching the series myself while I work out at the gym, and I love reading these right after I watch an episode. Keep up the amazing work! And thank you for these!
Is the shoutout the “all I got was a t-shirt” shirt? Because I kind of remember there being something like this in the firs few comics BUT it was like 20 years ago when I last read them
Think my favourite part is “‘Good work, Colquitt,’ congratulated the General.” The guy read that bit in “How To Write!” about not overworking the word “said”.
This comic strip is so funny.
CSM and his crush on Scully. 😀
This one laid me flat, holy shit.
Wow. That was great. That’s all I have to say. : )
Bravo. I had no idea you could write so bad. I really like how the General convinces Colquitt to assassinate JFK. God damn.
Ah! My favourite episode. 🙂
This is one of my least favourite episodes…or it was until I read this version!
“…his eyes glinting like twin pools of azure emeralds.”
Special guest writer: Jim Theis!
Does this mean his name is really Clqutt?

Fantastic.

Now that you point it out, I totally remember that too. I only read that comic a few months ago but had already forgotten it.

So funny, I was just telling my daughter about this episode this morning and then I read the strip, lol!
I guess I’m in the minority but I loved this ep 🙂

“With that they exchanged Christmas presents and neither one was a stupid tie.”
Or a box of chocolates, which is the only part of this episode I remember.

Aw, I really liked this one.
