This episode is just a great little self-contained movie. I named this strip “Monster of the Week” because I always liked the stand-alone “monster of the week” episodes better than the ongoing story arc, but that’s true of most viewers, isn’t it?

“Cat’s in the cradle and the silver spoooon” lol
This is a good episode! Mulder is a very Mulder-y mix of insightful, arrogant compassionate, and obnoxious. Marty seems to find murder pretty self-actualizing.
It’s not clear to me if Marty always sees through her dad’s eyes, or only sporadically. The eye test seems to indicate the latter, but that makes her decision to confront her dad with the intent to shoot him even more of a gamble than it otherwise would be.
I guess the thing that Mulder & Scully did that influenced things the most in this episode was send for some blood tests, which I agree is not the most X-Files-y thing.
I like her last line.
I wasn’t that fond of the MotW episodes, except that they often had terrific guest stars like Lili Taylor. I liked the earliest MotW, where it was never certain that something supernatural was going on. Once they revealed that, yes, there was supernatural stuff, and they could make up any dumb shit they wanted for a story, I thought it was kind of a cheat. I much preferred the episodes about Mulder and Scully.
