I always thought there weren’t enough death cards in this show. But I hadn’t noticed the preponderance of invisible veteran killers. I guess war really is hell!
And double down on the “dull episode made good”. Good work!
Finally caught up on all the episodes. Lovin this site. Thanks Shaenon!
Have to agree, not best episode, but worth watching again just to see how she will cover it.
I’ve been lurking, but decided now to poke my head up and post a comment. I’ve just now realized that all the episodes of Season 4 up to and including “Memento Mori” (with the exception of “El Mundo Gira,” because… eh) are mostly the reason why Season 4 is my favorite season of The X-Files. Then you have the last episode and this one and the next three episodes, none of which I have any memory of whatsoever. And then it gets good again (in my opinion).
So basically, my reaction to the first panel is neatly summed up in panels 4 and 5. Why did they do this plot so often. The ending of this comic was hilarious though.
(And when Marita gets a makeout scene, it won’t be with Mulder. Ha.)
I’m surprised nobody ever mentioned that the guy basically has The Shadow’s origin story. Learned to cloud people’s minds in Asia so they’d think he’s invisible and all that.
Brilliant! One of your best, Shaenon!
Agreed. This was definitely the best one so far in Season 4.
Love it! Specifically, Skinner’s last line. I LOL’d.
I thought “why does that man behind the fence have sharks for hands?” and then realized they were dogs and was sorry.
Also, you managed to turn one of the most boring episodes into a fun comic, so thank you!
Veteran with sharks for hands? Now that‘s an episode of X-Files I would’ve liked to have seen.

One of my least favorite episodes of all time and one of your best comics ever great job HILarious!!!

What is Mulder wearing in his panel with Marita? And do you actually believe she wanted to make out with him?
I think he’s wearing a scarf. Wasn’t it snowing in that scene?

They found a guy all their reports said was dead and corrected the mistake. What’s wrong with that, Skinner?
They made sure the paperwork was correct. That’s good bookkeeping, and should be rewarded.
