The first time I watched this episode was 16 years ago, in an ancient b&w TV. I thought it was brilliant and super creepy. When I got to rewatch it again in colour, I was blown away by its superb cinematography and the eerie blue lights/shadows. I also loved Mulder’s characterisation (and his uber-sexy stubble and cheek stitches!). It remains one of my favorite S3 episodes.
Old cinematographer’s secret: everything looks better if you slap a blue filter on the lens. As one of the directors of Xena: Warrior Princess said, “If you can’t make it good, make it blue.”
Mulder stubble, on the other hand, is a gift. If you’re not born with it, you’ll never achieve it.
Hristina, I agree completely with you. I always liked this one very much. It was so dark and disturbing, creepy and with a strange twist (although not as convincing as is should have been)
OMG, I’ve totally blocked this episode from my mind.
Now I really want the rest of the lyrics to Mulder’s song. I need a verse about Demona.
We need the rest of those lyrics so that Eddurd can write a filk of it.
To quote Tip, “Oh, so you think I can just turn it on and off like a faucet?”
No, I think it’s on constantly. The consistent high quality of your output is amazing.
…Can’t he?
Is the Nosferatu shout-out yours, or was that in the episode?
I always liked this episode. Because it’s freaky. Clay, man…. CLAY!

Baron von Mistygoyle!
Oh hey, I saw this recently.
Didn’t really feel the episode was all that well-written when it came to the twist. Oh well, they can’t all be winners.

Man, I miss Gargoyles on TV.
