Darin Morgan: unbeatable. He follows up on the girly scream in a later episode.
Dr. Bambi is supposed to be a super hot science temptress and usually that’s my favorite type, but I feel like it doesn’t quite work for the simple reason that it is mathematically impossible to be hotter than Scully.
AAHHH!
Well played.
Darin Morgan is brilliant, as are your comics. I *love* the little Easter egg you snuck in there. Simply fantastic.
This episode looks really good, and obviously, it’s by Darin Morgan and is therefore brilliant, but I have never watched it.
It’s about cockroaches. Nope. Not gonna happen. Nope.
HAH! The easter egg is a great little “WTF?” moment if you’re only half looking at the screen.
I only noticed it the third time or so. Guess that’s what comes of living in a hall of residence.
I guess it didn’t really bug me much.
This is a good one (both the episode and the strip). I could tell this was a Darin Morgan one just because it was funnier than your usual X-Files episode. Scenes would stretch out just a tad longer so they can get in one last punchline before the change. Wonderful stuff.
I also really like the part at the beginning where Mulder keeps on calling Scully about things, all while she’s going about her business. It really amused me for some reason. Maybe just how the who thing was played as being really normal.
one of my all time faves, so droll! and i love the easter egg 😉
I had so forgotten about the awesomeness of this episode! Now I must watch it again. The gas station is one of my all-time favorite Scully scenes.
Oh, sure, it’s all fun and games until I scream in fright and drop my phone on the floor, cracking the screen. Which I didn’t, but close. However, I won’t be rechecking the comments on this week’s strip. (Really, Darin would be so proud.)
You know, I’ve always wished that someone would take, say, the old design of those massive Motorola handsets (the ones with the “look at me!” pull-out aerials that do absolutely nothing), then put a modern dumbphone (or a smartphone running Android with some kind of cover over the touchscreen so you can hide it) inside the case. You’d need some tricks to get the buttons working with the right sound and everything, but it’d be truly worth it to be able to say “I shall call them ON MY MOBILE TELEPHONE”, complete with pretentious aerial-pulling motion.
….although if someone did sell that, I’d need to speed up my plan to prank people by carrying around a corded phone just on the off chance that I need to make a phonecall and can loudly ask if anyone has somewhere I can plug it in. Then I’d “upgrade” to the fake-brickphone and crow about how modern it is whenever people start talking about how awesome their smartphones are.
Brilliant abuse of the camera. You got the timing just right too… it appeared just as I got to that panel.
And so true about Scully’s hotness. I’ve proved it mathematically too.
You are all incorrect. Gillian Anderson is MUCH hotter than Scully, so you can suck it!
Trivia: “Bambi” gets her last name from May Berenbaum, respected entomologist and organizer of the “Insect Fear Film Festival” at the University of Illinois.
(Or as her promo materials have put it: “Dr. Berenbaum is famous in her own right as an advocate of popular scientific literacy, reincarnated as the character “Bambi Berenbaum” in The X-Files.”)
Kudos to Darin Morgan! Shaenon, I loved the surprise!
Okay, how am I going to explain the shoeprint on my Macbook Pro screen?
hahahaha I burst out laughing at the easter egg!awesomeness! I always had a soft spot for this ep simply because of jealous!Scully ^^ Lovelovelove this!
This comic doesn’t show any cockroaches at all AND I AM FINE WITH THAT
OR DOES IT???
[looks at panel 5 again] Ah! Ah! AAAAAAHH! [smashes monitor with boot] Actually, those ‘roaches were kinda cute.
This is my second favorite episode. I can’t wait to see what you do with my first favorite! (Jose Chung’s From Outer Space)
Queequeg!!
So all these people are in the comments talking about an Easter egg, and I’m scrolling back up because I didn’t see any Easter egg, and I’m vaguely wondering if there’s a gag in Scully reading Truman Capote that I’m not smart enough to get, when AAAAAAAARGH!!!!
